A Self Taught Artist Who Loved Painting

Between 1998 and 2003 I used to paint. I loved it. A self taught artist. I always said about my work, "I've seen better, and I've seen worse". I was fortunate to have sold my paintings on Ebay in about half of the U.S.A.

Looking back, I wish I wasn't so obsessed with straight lines on all my paintings. All the buildings had to be completely straight. And also, due to my life and my job at the time, a lot of my paintings were rushed. But I'm glad I was able to do this. I really enjoyed painting a lot.

I have been going to The Florida Keys since 1992. The island colors and tropical buildings always inspired me when I was painting. Especially Key West. The colorful buildings are all around here. Also a lot of thick rope and heavy wood poles are everywhere. This adds to the island atmosphere.

A great example of the buildings in the Florida Keys that inspired me were Robbie's in Islamorada. The Kayak Shack was a also a great place to take photo's and visit. The building here I painted a couple of times. A perfect example of the island lifestyle.

Tropical/Island/Caribbean art would not be complete with the lobster. They are a perfect decor piece for the laid back paradise lifestyle. Lobsters are probably one of the most painted items for all island art. I believe though that the Maine lobster looks better than the Florida lobster because of the claws.

Caribbean Island art would not be complete without crazy looking gecko's. They always add a great look to your tropical decor.

The rope on island art always gives it the finishing touches for displaying on your wall.

Also roughing up your art with sandpaper gives it that little extra for an aged weathered look. I saw this at many shops selling furniture throughout the Florida Keys. This has been very popular for quite a long time now.

Oh yes the fish. Now this has to be the most painted creature of any genre art. Especially tropical art. You cannot do better than having fish decor on your wall. There is something very unique about fish art. I can't remember what kind of fish is.

The beach bungalow. Looking back this was my favorite to paint. I could have made this so much better if I could have found more time.

This was inspired by the Kayak Shack in Islamorada next to Robbie's. With a few changes.

Again, this picture was inspired by the Kayak Shack in Islamorada. With some changes.

Thanks for visiting my little blog. I hope you enjoyed it. All the best.
